‘Black Panther’ Teaser Steps “Into The Spotlight” With Run The Jewels

One of the wonderful elements of Captain America: Civil War was its setup of T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) backstory. After his father’s death, T’Challa stepped into action and with Black Panther, he completely steps “into the spotlight.” If you have no idea what that reference means, check out the details below!

With Black Panther, T’Challa returns home to the technologically advanced Wakanda to take his rightful place at the throne. Michael B. Jordan, reuniting with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler (they worked together on Fruitvale Station and Creed) plays T’Challa’s main nemesis Erik Killmonger (Jordan’s hairdo and get-up is pretty on point).

Since it’s a simple teaser, we don’t get too much story behind Black Panther, but the brief snippets of action looks engaging (and the production design and costumes are also eye-catching).

Kudos to the brains behind the Black Panther trailer for using the standout Run The Jewels track “Legend Has it” for its music. Along with its propulsive beat, El-P rapping “step into the spotlight” perfectly dovetails into T’Challa’s hero’s journey in the film. I’m a Run The Jewels fan (watching RTJ at MSG while they’re playing “Call Ticketron” is on my bucket list), and it’s great to see them get a ton of love with the trailer. Here’s the video for “Legend Has It”:

Black Panther , co-starring Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman, Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya, Andy Serkis, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker, opens February 16, 2018.
